The musician Prince was known for his electric stage presence, extravagant fashion, controversial lyrics and his multi-instrumental, multi genre music. Prince alongside Michael Jackson became one of the first black artists to be played on MTV and continued to break down boundaries, In 1993 he rebelled against Warner Brothers changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol. He was then referred to as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" or simply "The Artist". 

As well as being one of the best-selling music artists of all time Prince not only created hits for himself but was also a great collaborator writing career defining songs for other artists including ‘nothing compares to you’ for Sinead O’Connor. The film also takes a look at some of his music inspiration, relationships with women and performances which stunned the world and highlights some of Prince's most loved tracks including 1999, Kiss and Purple Rain - breaking down their inception and their impact on his career.

This documentary explores all aspects of Prince through interviews with music journalists and Prince experts, discovering what creates and defines the man. There is no artist who was more prolific and more unique and this film celebrates this life and looks at his lasting legacy.
